Obituary of Doreen Sullivan

It is with great sadness we announce Doreen’s passing from this physical earth on Monday, February 6, 2023 at the age of 79. She leaves behind the love of her life Peter, her adoring children Heather (Geoff) and Christine (Steve) as well as her grandchildren Gabriel and Amelia who were the sparkle of her eye. Sister to the late Don (Ruth) Franks.

Doreen had many interests and things which she was passionate about. She was a Past Executive Member of the Therapeutic Touch Network of Ontario (TTNO) and a member of the Theosophical Society. She was very creative. Some of her favourite pastimes and activities included creating art and crafts, listening to and teaching music, playing her pan flute, skiing and pursuing new interests. Doreen had a very creative mind and an eccentric personality as she appreciated everything around her from colours and how things in the space made her feel. Her favourite place to be was in the comfort of her own home as it was her sanctuary. But most of all the biggest priority in her life was her Family as every interaction meant the world to her.

In accordance with her wishes, cremation has taken place and arrangements are entrusted to Essentials Cremation and Burial Services. A Gathering of Remembrance will take place at the Delphi Hall, 4414 Portage Rd., Niagara Falls on Friday, February 10, 2023, at 11:30 am. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Wellspring Niagara in Doreen’s Memory. Online condolences may be shared on Doreen’s tribute page found at EssentialsNiagara.com.

I would like to think that my life has some meaning for others, that in some way, I have been able to have a positive affect on those around me. - Doreen

To Doreen’s memory – I think her personal note at the end of her obit is so touching and meaningful = She did touch many …
.I have many fond memories of Doreen as I have mentioned in my previous comment but I just wanted to add another that just makes me smile every time I think of her = Doreen was on the executive on the Niagara Dental Hygienists’ society, we all worked alongside each other, to enhance our profession. Doreen gave a demonstration of TT which resulted in another hygienist pursuing that practice but a really cute memory is when Doreen was taking belly dancing lessons and she gave us a dance demo at a meeting = sharing all the sounds of her bangels and her joy

To Doreen’s family – I just heard about Doreen’s death today when walking with a retired dental hygienist, RIP Doreen and I am so sorry for your loss. Doreen and I did many dental health month/or special dental health day activities together. years ago. One year we had many successful education sessions at malls, promoting healthy snacks and a healthy mouth. Doreen created a huge mouth with big red lips and teeth and we made healthy food choice sand bags for children to toss into it. We did many dental hygiene related activities together and also took our first therapeutic touch class together. I heard many stories of her family, stories of wonderful skiing seasons and one year of the flood that occurred in your chalet and watching your downstairs furniture make its way up the stairs, stories of making sausage and many more. We spoke her name at Lake Ontario today to know she will be remembered by us during her soul journey .

Dear Peter and family,
Therapeutic Touch and the annual June Retreats in Caledonian brought us together. I am very grateful for that.
More recently she generously shared her Zoom account with our TT Branch so that we could remain together during this pandemic time.
Doreen will remain in my memory as a wise and gracious lady..
As your family gathers to celebrate Doreen’s full life, may you and they hold each other gently at this tender time.

My heartfelt condolences go out to Peter and the family.
Ahh Doreen. I have so many wonderful memories of Doreen and will miss her greatly. I remember visiting her once [We lived so far from each other, our visits were mainly by phone.] and sharing some of the delicious cheeses she and Peter made. She was a lifelong learner and her learning seemed to accelerate these last few years – she was on a deep inward journey.
Doreen will be missed by her TTNO community, both here in Ontario, across Canada and in the US. I’ll never forget the TTNO Teachers Day where she gave her side-splitting imitation of a seagull from Finding Nemo – “Mine, mine, mine…”. Many TTers will remember her beautiful butterfly costumes worn at TTNO and TTIA conferences.
Doreen will be remembered for her wisdom, excellent teaching, generosity, compassion and gentle nature. Doreen, your life has had special meaning. You have had a positive effect on those around you. And now may your next adventure begin!

Dear Peter and family if there is one thing I remember about Doreen it is how she always spoke so highly and lovingly of her family – her love and joy palpable with each exchange. So sorry for your loss of her bright light. We travelled to Pumpkin Hollow Farm many times and there are so many happy fun filled memories of her creative skits, as well as her tremendous kindness, sensitivity and caring nature. She was a wonderful Therapeutic Touch practitioner, teacher and friend. May her wings carry her onward. Blessings and Peace be yours.

Peter and Family:
My heart felt condolences on the loss of your wife and Mama. Doreen was respected and admired by so many in her Therapeutic Touch family. Always a gentle and kind TT teacher and Branch leader. Never doubt that she made a difference.

I can see her now with her life long friend Helen Will flitting around in their multicoloured butterfly wings at the TTIA Congress. ❤️ I know that she has taken wing… oh the joy… God’s arms are around her… and he whispers “Well done good and faithful servant… welcome home! “ I will miss her dearly..

I’m so sorry to hear of Doreen’s passing. I knew her through Therapeutic Touch. She was a wonderful mentor to me and encouraged my continued learning to become a teacher myself. I know she will be missed by all who knew her and we’re lucky enough to call her a friend.
