Obituary of Donna-Jean Winger
Donna-Jean WingerPassed away peacefully at Douglas Memorial Hospital on March 31, 2021 in her 79th year. Predeceased by her husband of 45 years Gerry Winger. Loving mother to Gary Kendrick, the late Darrell Kendrick, the late Rick Winger (Diane), Ron Winger (Candy), and Todd (Jaime). Cherished “Grammie” to Levi, Ryan, Evan, Logan, Shawn, Megan, Renee (Garrett), Victoria, Daniel and Alicia (Brian) and “Great Grammie” to 1. Beloved sister to Melvin (Helen), Ben (Lori), the late Jake (Grace), and her loyal furry companions Annie and the late Riley. Donna-Jean will by many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends.
Donna-Jean took so much pride in her home, spending time to make it look like a Country Living magazine and creating a comforting atmosphere for her family and friends. Her home would also be filled with many delicious smells including her famous baked beans, scalloped potatoes and meatloaf. She also made a mean ambrosia salad. She enjoyed watching her bird feeders and loved seeing Hummingbirds, Blue Jays, Oriels, and Cardinals. When she wasn’t bird watching, she enjoyed watching NASCAR with her son Garry and rooting for Kyle Busch. Donna-Jean worked as a Nurse through the Niagara Health System during her working life and truly loved caring for everyone. She has been described as being the type of person that would give the shirt off her back to anyone that needed it and never expect anything in return. Christmas was an important holiday for her family as she would “spoil them rotten” with gifts that she would always put so much thought into. She was also known for her love of Avon and Regal magazine shopping, often being told she was “spending all her money”. Donna-Jean will be remembered for many things, but most of all her independence, her good sense of humor, being quick witted, and her great laugh, happy eyes and smile. She was a great parent, “Grammie” and friend to many.
The family would like to thank the staff of Douglas Memorial Hospital and Dr. Scher, she passed peacefully and comfortably because of your compassion. Essentials Cremation and Burial Services (905-354-2133) has been entrusted with arrangements. As per Donna-Jean’s wishes, cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the SPCA would be appreciated by the family. A celebration of Donna-Jean’s life will be scheduled at a later date in the future. Online condolences may be shared on Donna-Jean’s tribute page on EssentialsNiagara.com.
