In Loving Memory of
Donato "Danny" Pinelli
1953 - 2026
Obituary of Donato "Danny" Pinelli
It is with profound sadness that our family announces the passing of Donato “Danny” Pinelli at the Welland General hospital, on Thursday, September 24, 2026 in his 74th year.Danny was a beloved father, grandfather, brother, and uncle, and spent his final days surrounded by his loving family and loyal friends. Beloved husband, and constant companion, of 49 years to Helene Pinelli (née Bibeau). Devoted and most loving father to Nicholas (Tanya Terry), Lynda (Ryan Cirillo), and Andrea (Daniel Arscott). Cherished and adored grandfather, affectionately known as “Huppa” to Daniel, William and Isabella Pinelli; Alexandria Cirillo; and Vienna and Leia Arscott. Loving brother to Elena Pinelli. Predeceased by his parents, Nicola and Angela Pinelli (née Martelli), and his brother Nunzio “Joe” Pinelli. Danny is also survived by his sister-in-law, Lucie Pinelli (née Sardella), many wonderful cousins, nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
Born in Roccamandolfi, Italy, on March 30, 1953, Danny immigrated to Canada with his family as a young child in 1956. They first settled in Toronto before making their home in Port Colborne, where Danny grew up and spent much of his life. In 1999, he moved to Welland with his family, where he continued to build a life centred around those he loved.
As a young man, Danny attended Toronto Metropolitan University (formerly Ryerson University) and went on to build a long and respected career in Public Health. He proudly served as a Health Inspector with the Niagara Region for more than 40 years.
While Danny took great pride in his work, his greatest purpose was always his family. He was, above all else, a man who cared deeply for others. His unwavering devotion to the people he loved was evident in everything he did. Danny was happiest when those around him were comfortable and cared for, and he always made sure everyone else was looked after before thinking of himself.
Danny’s family was the centre of his world, and there was no greater joy in his later years than being a grandfather. He treasured every moment with his grandchildren and took immense pride in watching them grow. He also developed a deep love of golf and cherished long walks along the ocean in Florida with Helene. These simple pleasures, along with the company of his family, brought him tremendous joy and remained among his greatest passions until his final days.
Danny’s family would like to extend their deepest gratitude and many thanks to Dr. Gabrielli and the wonderful nurses, and the caring staff of the sixth floor of the Welland General Hospital. With a special and profound thanks to Danny’s family doctor, Dr. Kevin Grant, and to his staff for the many years of excellent care.
Private arrangements have been made for Danny at this time. In lieu of flowers, if so desired, donations may be made to the Niagara Health Foundation with fund allocation to Palliative Care (Welland).

Dear Helene & family & Elena,
On behalf of the Canadian Institute of Public Health Inspectors – Retirees Advisory Committee I extend our deepest condolences to you and the Pinelli & Bibeau families. During his public health inspection career Danny left a positive mark on our profession and the communities he served. Many of his Ontario PHI retirees and former Ryerson classmates will truly miss him especially those of us who golfed with him at our annual CIPHI ON Branch golf tournament on Sept 13th. May his memory be a blessing to you during this sad time.
Helene and family. Our deepest condolences. Danny was always so happy and always went out of his way to say hello and always left with a smile. Our parents, Italo and Mafalda, always spoke fondly of him and considered him a good friend. Our hearts go out to you and your family.
