Obituary of Dennis Charles Bering

With shattered hearts we announce that on Monday, April 17, 2023 in the comfort of his home and surrounded by the love of his family; Dennis Charles Bering passed away peacefully. He has been reunited with his parents Anthony and Pauline (née Donhauser), his mother and father in-law Morris and Beth Underhill and his nephew Stephen Bering (2013). He leaves behind his devoted wife of 43 years, Brenda Bering (née Underhill), adored twin sons Ryan (Hilary McIlveen) and Carl (Meg Ramage), cherished grandchildren Henry, Charlie and Lucy, loving siblings Tim (Karen), Bev (Jim) Sneath, Al (Connie) and Patrick (Natalie) as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Dennis was a lifelong resident of Niagara, raised in the Hamlet of Effingham. He often spoke with laughter in his voice, reminiscing of fond memories growing up on the family farm. He was the type of man who always had to be doing something, he loved to putter. Dennis enjoyed the outdoors, ATVing, snowmobiling, boating, scuba diving and travelling with Brenda, spending time in new places in their 5th wheel. He always looked forward to the May 24 weekend fishing trips at Bay Quinte with family, friends and most importantly his boys. Dennis loved watching his sons and their friends play hockey and always made an effort to be actively involved, one way or another. He valued the time spent with his wife and boys on their 30 acre property, a space where he could watch his family grow and spend time outdoors. He loved being around people and making everyone laugh. Even after being diagnosed with cancer the first time, his heart attack and while struggling with cancer again, he joked to the last day of his life, he had such a great sense of humour. He was an amazing husband, father, grandfather, brother, brother-in-law, cousin, nephew, and friend with a heart of gold. Dennis always put others before himself, he was selfless to a fault.

Dennis was fortunate enough to work alongside his father and become the proud owner of Bering Refrigeration. He enjoyed providing solutions, working with people and the idea of running and growing a business. He grew the business from a one person independent company to a leading refrigeration company in commercial, industrial and agriculture within the Niagara Region. He did this for 20 years and then sold his company later in life to be able to spend more time with his family. He continued with his career working with a lot of the same people and customers in the industry creating further success at Penn Refrigeration.

The world is a little bit dimmer now without his light. He will be sadly missed by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him. In keeping with his wishes, cremation has taken place. Arrangements have been entrusted to Essentials Cremation and Burial Services. A private inurnment will be held on Saturday April, 29 2023 followed by a Celebration of Dennis' Life for friends and family from 11:00 a.m until 2:00 p.m at the Old Town Hall in Pelham 491 Canboro Rd W, Fenwick, ON. The family would like to send sincere thanks to Nurse Colleen and all of their family members for their love and support. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in memory of Dennis to Princess Margaret Cancer Centre or to The Lincoln County Humane Society.

We are truly saddened with the passing of Dennis. Not only was he a great colleague, but an incredible teacher. He was free with his knowledge, but willing to offer assistance on any project. I will miss his laughter and quick wit, but thankful the battle is over. We started out as employees and ended up as friends. He is leaving behind a wonderful family and our hearts are with you during this difficult time.

I am truly saddened to hear of Dennis’s passing.
He was a consummate professional that took the time to comprehend and question refrigeration product designs which made manufacturers such as us the better for it.
My deepest sympathy.

Brenda, Carl and Ryan. I am so so sorry to hear of your loss. Dennis was an amazing man who always made me feel so welcome in your home. I haven’t seen him much in recent years, but every time I ran into him out and about, he was just as welcoming as when I was a little kid. I’ll always remember him for the positive and uplifting man he was, especially at the rink. I will have your family in my thoughts as I know how tough of a time this will be.

This breaks my heart
To read. Anyone who knew or met Dennis, knew how much love he had for Brenda, Ryan and Carl and how proud he was of his family. Dennis is one of the kindest people I have ever met, his laughter and smile were contagious. I will always remember Dennis as a great neighbour and family friend. Flying around on the tractor, working on the ice rink(or behind the bench at a Pelham panther game), and family fun camping/cottage trips.
My thoughts are with the Bering family during this difficult time.❤️
