Obituary of David Wells

With heavy hearts, we announce the sudden passing of Chesley David “Dave” Wells on Monday, December 16, 2024, at the age of 71. He was one of five children born to Tommy and Annie Wells in Glovertown, Newfoundland, on October 26, 1953, Dave’s life was a testament to love, dedication, and hard work. Dave is survived by his beloved wife of 22 years, Sandy; his stepchildren Tyler (Jerie) and Tammy; his cherished grandchildren, Emily and Zack; and his siblings Gordon, Roy (Vi), Judy (Gerald), and Shirley. He is predeceased by his parents, Tommy and Annie Wells.

His career as a Service Technician was marked by his tireless dedication and unwavering work ethic. Beyond his professional life, Dave’s true passions shone through in his music, woodworking, and love for his family. Music was a lifelong passion for Dave. From a young age, he was drawn to the rhythm of the drums, joining a band and performing professionally by the age of 14. He went on to play with Eddie Eastman & The Terra Nova Express, often travelling abroad for performances. Whether tapping his fingers to good old country tunes or stomping his foot to the beat, music remained a constant source of joy throughout his life.

Dave was a man of few words, but his actions spoke volumes. He had a heart of gold. His love for people, his community, and his family was evident in every project he undertook. He had a special knack for woodworking, exhibiting meticulous detail into every piece he crafted. He was a true Mr. Fix it, able to fix just about anything. You never had to worry with Dave there. As a lifelong Habs fan, Dave loved old time hockey and he found great joy watching old games online. Dave will be remembered for his lighthearted and sarcastic sense of humour. His cheesy and classic “Newfie” jokes always brought smiles to everyone he met. He enjoyed watching old westerns and Fraser, the latter of which always elicited the biggest laughs from him, which were a joy to hear. He was also a great cook, known for making the best ribs. Holidays were extra special as Dave loved stepping into the kitchen to prepare holiday meals for his family.

Above all else, Dave was known for his love of family. His thoughtful gestures, like leaving a mug, cereal bowl and spoon ready for Sandy before heading to work, exemplified the quiet ways he showed his love. He was a pillar of support to his stepchildren, and was always ready to lend a hand, whether it was helping with projects or just being there when needed. Two years ago, Dave experienced a profound shift in his life with the arrival of his first granddaughter, Emily. She quickly became the light of his life, bringing immeasurable joy and love. Emily adored her “Pop-pop” and looked forward to their visits, whether it was him dropping by unexpectedly or her spending time at “Pop-pop” and “Nan-nan’s” home in Niagara Falls. The family is heartbroken by his passing and cannot imagine life without him. As Sandy lovingly remembers, “You will be missed so much, and one day we shall meet on that beautiful shore.”

In keeping with Dave's wishes, cremation has taken place. If desired, memorial donations to the Salvation Army would be appreciated.

Eddie and I are very saddened to hear of Dave’s sudden passing. Dave was a big part of our lives during Eddies early career. Thank you Dave for your dedication and wonderful drumming with Terra Nova Express. We had many a laugh with your dry sense if humor.. We have so many stories about Dave during his time on the road. His favorite meal on the road was bologna ,homefries and eggs. We will never forget you Dave. Our sincerest condolances to Sandy and the whole family. RIP 🙏

Goodbye Dave. I will miss seeing you at Ray James when you would stop by for a part or chat. We worked together at Lincoln for many years. Your smile and easygoing manner was always a joy. I remember our first conversation when you called Lincoln about a job. You were an exceptional person and friend. Will miss you. ☺️❤️ I offer my heartfelt sympathy to Sandy and family.

Rest in peace Dave and God bless you. At work I looked forward to your stopping by my desk with a joke in the morning to start my day. We could always count on you to go that extra mile to help a customer in need even if it meant you working overtime. Your love for your family and people was evident in your actions. My deepest heartfelt condolences to your family and loved ones. 🙏🏻❤️
