Obituary of David Brian Thorne

With a heavy heart, we say goodbye to David “Dave” Thorne, a man whose humor, talent, and love filled the lives of everyone around him. Dave passed away on August 22, 2025, at the age of 72.

Dave was a man of many gifts, but perhaps his greatest was his ability to make others laugh. His witty one-liners, groan-worthy dad jokes, and playful pranks were a staple of every gathering. With his analytical brain, he could fix anything, and he was known for being "always right," a fact his family and friends will fondly remember as a charming part of his personality.

A true artist at heart, Dave was an incredible musician. He was an amazing guitarist and a gifted singer who could harmonize with anyone. Music was a huge part of his life, especially when he was jamming in the garage or doing karaoke with his daughters, Jennifer and Carly (Jesse Hughes), and his great circle of friends. He was a lifelong fan of the Beatles and a lover of Clint Eastwood Westerns, but he also had a modern side, enjoying hours of playing his PlayStation.

Dave was a fiercely loyal friend and a true animal lover, known for his special affection for squirrels and cats—though he made no secret of his dislike for bees. His love for cars began early, and he spent many years working in auto body, a job that suited his skills perfectly. Later in life, he found a new freedom on his electric bike, riding all over town to his favourite spots by the water.

Above all, Dave was a devoted husband to his wife, Linda, with whom he shared 52 years of marriage. Their love was a beautiful foundation for their family, and his daughters, Jennifer and Carly, will forever cherish the special moments they shared with their dad. He will be missed by his grandsons, Owen and Ben, along with their father Paul Barrie, and his garage band buddies Donnie, Kim, Ray, and TJ. A special thank you to brother-in-law and sister-in-law Randy and Wendy Richards for their help during this difficult time. Dave leaves behind his sisters and brothers, Marie (Graham), Diane (Bob), Rick, Ron (Dianna), Nancy (Clarence), Elaine, and Buddy (Irene). He is predeceased by his sister Gail and her husband Bucky.

In keeping with his wishes, cremation has taken place. Arrangements have ben entrusted to Essentials Cremation and Burial Services. A celebration of Dave's life will be held on Saturday, September 20, 2025 starting at 3:00 p.m. at the Chippawa Legion 3860 Legion St, Niagara Falls.

Dave’s legacy of laughter, music, and love will live on in the hearts of his family and friends. We will miss his humor, his guidance, and his unwavering spirit. Donations to a charity that reminds you of Dave would be appreciated by the family.
