Obituary of David Philip Rose
David passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on October 10th, 2025, after a brief illness. Dad had a beautiful send off surrounded by tears, love and laughter.David leaves behind his loving wife Mary; his brothers Howard (Pattie), Jim (Dawn deceased); his sisters Joyce (Don deceased), Joan, Debbie (Bob), Carolyn (Bill), Cynthia (Mark); his children David (Leah), Brian, Jessica (Paul), Candace, Lindsey, Raquel (Collin), Chelsea (Damian), Kayla (deceased); his grandchildren Isabelle, Lucas, Austin, Vito, Paul Jr., Carter, Louis, Gia; and numerous relatives. Predeceased by his parents Ethel and Howard Rose, stepmom Marion (Paul), his sister Marie and his daughter Kayla.
Dad was born in Cornwall Ontario and grew up on a dairy farm. He was a member of the 4-H Club. His family said there was no can’t do on the farm. Dad cherished his time working at his father’s lumber mill. He loved his brothers and sisters dearly and they remained close even until his last breath. Dad grew up on the banks of Newfoundland. The Atlantic Ocean was always close to his heart. His last years were spent beside the river where he found serenity. Dad was like a river – always flowing despite all of the obstacles.
Dad worked as a heavy machine operator and mechanic. Dad worked very hard his whole life and was happiest in a heavy machine especially his 892 E LC excavator. Dad successfully owned and operated Dave’s Excavating for 30 years. Dad saw beauty in things where others might not. He had a way of restoring things back to life. Dad repaired a Liebherr Excavator that sat in a scrap yard in a field for 5 years. The tracks were completely buried in the mud. No one could get it running. Dad's persistence paid off as he fired it up and everyone was in awe. It was a proud moment for Dad who showcased his exceptional mechanical skills. Dad always said to Never Give Up!
A wild Rose, Dad lived his way. He liked country music and a cold beer after a hard day’s work. He was thoroughbred country boy who loved all things rodeo. Dad was a tough man who had a heart of gold. Dad was a selfless man who was very generous. He had big shoulders who did not hesitate to help anyone. Dad was a man of few words. He took great joy watching his children and grandchildren all together. His greatest contributions are the ones he left behind – his family. Dad taught his kids to be proud and have strong work ethics. He believed in working hard and child labour, long before it was frowned upon. Dad had a great sense of humour and his laughter and jokes will be missed, he was so infectious. He had a lot of funny sayings and nicknames for the kids. Dad liked to say that the Bear walks alone but this time Dad your cubs are always with you.
Mary and Dad met and she brought so much happiness into his life. Her charismatic personality and sense of humour made it easy to love her. Mary took such great care of Dad he was comforted by her unwavering love for him.
Although our hearts are broken we take comfort in knowing Dad has been reunited with his Mom, Dad, Marie and Kayla.
Whenever we hear the rumble of a diesel and smell of the exhaust we will always be reminded of you. Dad and his 892 Excavator have pulled into the shop and the engine is off but his light and love will always remain. Lord Thundering Jesus, C’ya on the other side B’y. We are going to miss you big guy, We love you so much.
In keeping with David's wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no service. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date.

RIP Senior.
You were a tough man, and your work ethic was something to be admired.
Life happens, and things change, but I will never forget all the good times we had together in the shack up the mountain.
RIP
Although the years have passed since I spent time with you and Jess, I will always remember the life lessons you taught to us both when we were young and wild. You taught us how to eat and bbq a proper steak as well as an unbreakable work ethic Dave. Over the years I always loved how Jess’ s eyes would light up when she shared stories of her Daddy, you really were her hero and I want you know we are here to support Jess and her family through this devastating loss. She will not be alone through this grief Dave and I ask that you continue to watch over her and her beautiful family as you always did.
Our sincerest condolences to Mary and the Rose family. This was very saddening news.
As I remember Dave, he would get up, put on his work boots, be on the job first before anyone. He was last to leave before heading to his shop to work on equipment…that nobody else was able to fix.
He loved “pulling wrenches” and seemed to find a way to keep everyone working with his ability to find a way.
He was always looking for those eager to learn and took many “young lads” under his wing along the way. One time Dave taught my 5 year old son to operate a bobcat “solo” and run an excavator with him in the cab. “This kid is better than most of today’s operators….probably because he listens… his teachers pretty good too.”
Dave would often operate an excavator while others stood and watched in amazement…and if someone said it couldn’t be done…he would just take what he could do to a whole new level, like a cowboy on his steel horse 892.
There are few people we come across with a true connection, I was fortunate to have that with Dave. Many times we would drive separately to a destination, because neither of us wanted to be the passenger…the times we drove together were filled with laughter, mostly about times of a hard days work and who was still left standing.
Sometimes he would talk of his family or they would show up at work…that’s when you would see his kind caring heart really shine.
The obituary could not have been more accurate and spot on!
Cowboys don’t like funerals because cowboys don’t say goodbye, they say see you later…
John 16:22 So with you: now is your time of grief, but I will see you again and you will rejoice, and no one will take away your joy.
Dave, I will always be grateful for your encouragement to pursue a career in construction. You provided me with opportunities to operate machinery I had never imagined using. You believed in me and helped me begin a new chapter in my life in my thirties. You pushed me forward. I will never forget you and all you did for me. You will be deeply missed. My sincere condolences go out to Mary and your family. You were a truly remarkable man.
Mary, I am so sorry for your heartbreaking loss, thinking of you at this difficult time.
Love Thelma

David and Mary have been crucial in Marion’s and my life giving much needed support in a very difficult health situation. In dealing with Marion’s death, they stood out by far in giving much needed support to me. For all this Marion and I will be eternally thankful.
Daddy I am going to miss our talks and seeing you. I will miss your hugs and seeing you pull up in your pick up truck. I will miss going to your job sites and looking up at my hero in the cab of your excavator. I will miss it all. We always had such a special bond all our lives. We have the same heart. I am crushed the boys won’t grow up learning how to operate machines with your guidance and love. Jr. Said today he is going to carry on your legacy as a heavy machine operator. Louis and Paul will miss you so much. I cherish all our time together and our bond is unbreakable. No matter what happens in life I know we will always be together. I know we always stayed close and my love for you is Neverending. Say hi to Kayla and the gang. I will never forget you. I will love you forever. Until I see you again Dad. You passed the torch but your shoes will never be filled it would be an impossible task.
