Obituary of David James Rennie

With treasured memories and heavy hearts, we regret to share the news of Dave's passing in his 80th year, on Monday, August 8, 2022, peacefully at home surrounded by loving family.

Predeceased by his parents, Jim and Bernice Rennie; he is survived by wife Judy, son Jim, daughter Sheri-Lee Thompson (Rob) and three grandsons, Alex and Matthew Rennie, and Benjamin Thompson.

Born in Iroquois Falls, Ontario, he remained there for 35 years, beginning his career in Human Resources in the paper industry. Transfers through the years brought him to mills in Smooth Rock Falls, Sault Ste. Marie and Thorold, Ontario. He then worked for the Ontario Lottery Corporation in several capacities until he retired at the age of 67.

Dave will be remembered for his contributions to the communities he lived in, serving as a Scout Leader and member of the Kinsmen Club in Iroquois Falls; Chairman of the Smooth Rock Falls Hospital Board; on the Board of the Children's Aid Society of Algoma and instructor of Sault College Adult Education Courses in HR and Labour Relations. He was proud to serve on the Board of Tanguay Place in Welland.

A loving, patient husband, father and friend, he was always available when advice was sought. He cared deeply for all animals and their welfare. He enjoyed golf, and travelling the world.

He will be missed but forever in our hearts. At Dave's request he will be cremated and no visitation or Celebration of Life will be held. If desired, donations in Dave’s memory may be made to any organization that looks after the welfare of animals.

I am devastated to learn that Dave is gone. My sincere and heartfelt condolences to all of the family. Dave was the kindest and best boss I ever worked for. He had the rarest ability to be both professional and hilariously funny at the same time. So many laughs. I cared very deeply for Dave and will always treasure my memories of him during our time at St. Mary’s Paper. May his memory live on in all of you.

Judy and Family,
I am so sorry to hear of your loss. I had the true pleasure of working with Dave during his HR career with OLG. As much as he became my mentor who I learned from, he was also a good friend. I loved his story telling and his amazing sense of humour.
I hope you all find comfort and feel his presence as you reflect on the memories shared.
RIP Dave.

The world got a little dimmer this week as this fine man had to leave the many people who loved him. His warmth and quiet sense of humour will be sorely missed. We are sending our love and prayers to all the family
