Obituary of David Harold Turnbull

April 4, 1948 (St. Catharines) – September 13, 2025 (St. Catharines)

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our father, grandfather, brother-in-law, and uncle David (Dave) Turnbull on September 13, 2025.

Predeceased by his parents Robert and Dina, and brother Bob.

Survived by his wife Marcelle, children Claudette & son-in-law Henny, Paul & daughter-in-law Alison, and grandchildren Naomi, Ruby, Maggie, Eva and Bobby.

Dave spent most of his life in St. Catharines. After receiving his diploma in Tool & Die at George Brown College in 1968, Dave completed his apprenticeship in 1974 at Hayes Dana frame and chassis plant in Thorold where he worked his entire career, retiring in 2007.

Dave was an avid sportsman; he loved playing and watching baseball and hockey. Gardening, mechanics, photography and boating were hobbies in his life.

But his greatest love was his family and spending time with them. Dave was firstly dedicated to his wife Marcelle; through good and bad times he was her number one support and in her own way Marcelle will dearly miss her one true love.

Dave’s second love was his children, grandchildren, and extended family. He was always available as a cheer leader, a helping hand, or a listening ear. All could be best experienced over a game of cards.

Marcelle and David were active members of Bethany Community Church, where they made many friends and served their community in multiple ways.

‘Mr. Dave’ has left a void in his neigbourhood; children and dog-walkers already miss his friendly smile and roadside chats.

Most of all Dave will be remembered as an active, selfless, compassionate and caring man. If he could speak his advice to us now, he’d say to never grow weary of doing good, for goodness wins in the end.

We would like to thank the staff on the 2nd and 5th floors at the Marotta Family Hospital.

A celebration of Dave’s life will take place on Saturday, September 27th at 2pm at The Port Dalhousie Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 350.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Niagara Peninsula Conservation.

Our deepest condolences. Dave made everyone feel welcome, whether at home or at church events. We had great times playing baseball with Dave. His energy was contagious and unforgettable.

We are very sad to hear of Dave’s passing. He was always a friendly face in the neighbourhood ready to chat. His Easter eggs, curios and trinkets that he placed in his gardens near the street captured the attention of kids and grown ups alike. He left a bowl of fresh water each day for the dogs who were walked on the street. All that is an example of the thoughtful, caring, generous and kind man who made an impact on many people on a daily basis. You are missed, Dave and remembered fondly. Our condolences to his family.

Dave loved to talk but most of all he would listen, really listen because he was interested in what you had to say.. Our deepest sympathy to Marcelle, Claudette and Paul and their families.

I have so many great memories of Dave Turnbull. Hockey + baseball for sure, a home Life-group but also working together in a “house moving” ministry at Bethany. Remind me Paul to tell you a brief story of that on the 27-Sept. May the Lord comfort you all as you grieve the loss as only Jesus can.

I already miss Dave as we spoke often while I passed walking my dogs. I’ve only been back in St. Catharines 4 years but Dave and Marcelle were very cordial to me when I introduced myself. He kept a beautiful yard! My condolences to the family.

One could not ask for truer, kinder, more faithful friends than the Turnbull family whom I have known since the 1960s. My sincerest condolences go out to Marcelle, Claudette, Paul and extended families who will miss Dave so much! God bless and comfort all of you!

Sincere condolences Marcelle, Claudette, and Paul and families on the loss of Dave. Such a positive and caring person, one of the first along with Marcelle to make me feel I belonged in St. Catharines when I first moved here. He’ll be missed.

In loving memory ...
I/we pledge to make a memorial donation.
