Obituary of Claudio Lino Zorzetto

ZORZETTO, Claudio “Claude” 1947-2021
Peacefully with his loving family at his side, Claude passed away at his home on June 27, 2021. Devoted soulmate of 44 years to Liz. Cherished father of Claudia and her spouse Chris, Alicia and her spouse Brian. He will be lovingly remembered by his grandchildren; Logan and Payton, as well as his step-grandchildren; Lily, Gwen and Keira. Beloved brother-in-law to Gina Marie, and uncle to Colin, Fiona (Alex), and Emily. Claude will be dearly missed by his cousins Joe and Franco, extended family members, cousins in Italy, and lifelong friends.
Claude was born in Treviso, Italy and immigrated to Canada with his parents, Gino and Irma as a young boy. He earned both a B.Ed and M.Ed from Brock University, and devoted over 30 years to educating elementary school children in Niagara. Claude was a gentleman, who dedicated his time to family, friends, students, staff, and the community. His faith was important to him, and he spent almost 40 years supporting programs for engaged couples of the Diocese of St. Catharines. He had a passion for sports and played for the inaugural Brock University basketball team. His love of basketball later translated to countless hours coaching students, and as a volunteer basketball coach for the Pelham Panthers Basketball Association. As a history buff, Claude enjoyed contributing to yearly Heritage Niagara dinners.
Claude loved to bring people together. Ever the consummate host, anyone who had the pleasure of being welcomed into his home could attest to his character, his warmth, and his humour – he had a great laugh. In his spare time, you could find Claude in a quiet spot fishing Lake Temagami or Georgian Bay. His love for fishing led to two great adventures in Alaska, where he caught the second greatest catch of his life: a 20-pound king salmon! His greatest catch was claimed years prior on his wedding day.
In accordance with Claude’s wishes, cremation has taken place. The family will hold a Celebration of Life at a later date. As an expression of sympathy, donations to the United Way Niagara – Backpack for Kids program https://www.unitedwayniagara.org/special-initiatives/backpacks-for-kids/ would be appreciated by the family. Special thanks to Dr. Maida, Dr. Chong and the staff of the Walker Centre and Niagara Health; your devotion to primary care throughout the pandemic is remarkable.
Funeral arrangements were entrusted with Essentials Cremation and Burial Services Inc. 102-A 4300 Drummond Road, Niagara Falls.

Dear Betty
My sincere condolences to you and your family for your loss.
I only met Claudio once when I was at your house with Gil. I still remember thinking “such a lovely man” in that single meeting.

Though I am sure that you were wanting many more years with him, I am happy that you had 44 years+ together. You two must have made many many great memories.
Enjoy talking about those times whenever you are together with family. It’s definitely bittersweet but it keeps Claudio with all of you – particularly the grandchildren.

Take good care
Floriana

Dear Liz and family
We are very sorry to hear of the passing of Claude. Our children all went to Battlefield elementary during Claude’s years as Principal. He was a loved principle by us all, always eager to help during the “ fun fair”, shovelling the pea gravel for the new playground equipment or cooking hot dogs for the meet the teacher night!
They say it takes a village to raise a child, we say thank you Mr Zorzetto, for being part of our village!
Our most sincere condolences, he made such a difference and I know he will be greatly missed. May his memory give you comfort during this difficult time.

I once lived on Ferguson St as a young boy and always thought Claude was a very good person. I haven’t seen him in almost 50 years, but the mere mention of his name brings an image of a kind and gentle young man. He was a few years older than me and I looked up to him as an example.

My deepest sympathy goes out to his family. It sounds like he had a wonderful life and family. May Claude’s memory be a blessing for you all.
