Obituary of Claude Charles Rivest

Claude C. Rivest passed away peacefully on September 28, 2021 with his family by his side. His battle with Myasthenia Gravis in recent years showed his courage in facing life's challenges with a smile. Despite the pain and loss of dignity that the disease robbed him of, Claude stayed strong until the very end. Claude will be dearly missed by his only daughter Tara Rivest (Rohan) and his two beautiful grand-daughters, Chloe and Lily who he adored more than life itself. He just loved being their "Papa" and tolerated them commandeering his T.V, endless sessions of dress-up and make-up application and even enjoyed helping them with their French homework. He was extremely grateful to his ex-wife and lifelong friend Ruth Johnson (John) for her constant presence by his side during his time of need. Claude is predeceased by his brother Roger "Andy" Rivest (Jan) and is survived by his six sisters; Claire Laz, Andrée Whylie (Torrance), Louise Charlebois (Gaétan), France Custeau (Raymond), Alice Hamill (Bill) and Jeannine Wigle (Jim), as well as his many nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to thank Pastor Reid Cooke of Redeemer Bible church for his many visits during Claude's illness as well his constant spiritual and emotional support. If desired, donations in memory of Claude can be made to Myasthenia Gravis Society of Canada.

In keeping with Claude's wishes, cremation has taken place. Arrangements have been entrusted to Essentials Cremation and Burial Services (905) 354 2133. A private family gathering honouring Claude will be held at a later date. Online condolences can be shared on Claude's tribute page found at EssentialsNiagara.com

So sorry to hear of your dad’s passing. I feel like we are all still in 8th grade, and our parents are still young! Hug your girls tight.

So sad to hear of Claude’s passing, we worked together for years and he taught me so much, we went to work functions together, then bowled together along with my husband, Ron. I will remember that infectious smile he always had. Tara our deepest condolences to you and the entire family may all your memories keep you strong and your dad close.

Sad to hear of Claude’s passing. We went to many functions together, hockey games with my boys and he treated them as if they were his. He always had a smile on his face. A true gentleman. Tara, my deepest condolences to you, Ruth and the family

Brian and I were deeply saddened to hear of Claude’s passing. We had so many good times and definitely a lot of laughs with you Ruth and Tara when you were our neighbours . It sounds like time didn’t change Claude’s great loving attitude and we are sure he will be dearly missed by all.
