Clara Szabo

Passed away peacefully on May 30, 2021 at 11:45am in Niagara Falls, Ontario in her 94th year. She is reunited with her loving husband Ludovic Soos. Cherished mother to Kato (Stefan) and Zsuzsa and beloved Nagy Mami to Istvan (Farrah), Robert (Hannah), Andras (Maushin). Missed great grandma of Jasmine, Lenni, Charlotte, Phoebe, Gabriel, and Aaliya.

Clara immigrated to Canada 22 years ago to be with her family at the young age of 72 from her birthplace of Romania. She loved being Canadian and was especially happy with our highways with how wide they were and how many of them we had. She was a proud member of the Liberal party and jumped right into politics, taking pride in her freedom and her ability to vote.

She would spend time every week with her daughters, partaking in shopping trips, seeing operas, taking trips to the cottage in Haliburton, among many other things. She would often help her family run their hotel in Mattawa. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and whenever they would come over, she would bake or cook their favourite pastries to enjoy. Clara was an extremely bright and hard-working woman; she was an accountant in Romania and loved her work.
In her retirement, she loved gardening and had a passion for opera. She would consistently cheer for our local sports teams; the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Toronto Raptors. She had a bright smile and cheery spirit and enjoyed watching tennis, playing cards, and visiting the Hungarian House where she loved to socialize. Clara had a hunger for knowledge, and if she could have attended school her whole life, she would have. She wanted to “keep up with the times” and became a whiz with the internet and her cell phone. Her Facebook account was a proud way she was able to keep connected with family and friends. Clara’s unconditional love for her family will be dearly missed.

Essentials Cremation and Burial Services (905-354-2133) has been entrusted with arrangements. The family is planning on having a celebration of her life once restrictions have lifted. Her ashes will be taken back to Sarpatak, Romania where she will be laid to rest with her husband. Donations to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated by the family.
