Obituary of Christel Kubik

After spending the evening surrounded by family; listening to their stories and fond memories, with her favourite music playing in the background, Oma (Christel) peacefully passed away at Greater Niagara General Hospital on February 10, 2024.

Christel was born in Wittstock Dosse, Germany, where she began her life with her parents and four older sisters. Surviving WW2, she emigrated to Canada in the early 1960’s as a young wife and mother. Living in Niagara Falls while raising her family she worked at Chef Boyardee, retiring in 1996 with many fond memories. In her retirement years she resided in Ridgeway with her family, enjoying her grandsons, travelling, gardening, cooking, and her feline companions.

During her lifetime Christel was predeceased by her former husband Alois, and many well-loved family members and friends, including her infant son Jack, her grandson Kyle, and her son-in-law Rich.

Christel is survived by her son Jorg (Kellie), her daughter Diane (Domenic), her grandsons Dylan and Seth, her great-grandson Luke, and her sweet cat Frieda.

The family would like to express their gratitude to the caring health-care associates at GNGH. Your acts of kindness, compassion, and patience created a comforting space for the last seven weeks of Oma’s life.

Essentials Cremation and Burial Services has been entrusted with the cremation arrangements. The family will honour Oma’s life with a private celebration. Donations in lieu of flowers may be directed to the Alzheimer Society of Niagara Region.
