Obituary of Charles William Franklin Carter
With his loving family by his side, Charles William Franklin Carter passed away peacefully at Meadows of Dorchester on Thursday, May 14, 2026, at the remarkable age of 95.A devoted and cherished husband, Charles shared an extraordinary 75-year marriage with his beloved wife, Jean Carter (née Parker). Together they built a life grounded in partnership, hard work, and unwavering love; an inspiring bond that stood the test of time and touched all who knew them.
Charles was the loving father of Lisa (David) Dal Bianco, and the proud and gentle grandfather of Michelle Darch (Dean Stoltz), Mark (Kristen) Dal Bianco, and Brian (Robin) Dal Bianco. His joy only grew with each new generation, and he delighted in being a great-grandfather to Carter, Presley, Payton, Emersyn, Avery, Weston, Reese, and Tyson. His face would light up at the mention of any of them; they were truly the sparkle in his eye and the heartbeat of his days.
He is predeceased by his parents, Franklin and Lucy Carter (née Wilson), and by his dear son, Philip Carter, who passed in 2022.
Charles will be remembered as a soft-hearted, steady, and deeply family-oriented man. He had a quiet reliability that made others feel grounded in his presence. His kindness was felt in the way he listened, the way he offered help without being asked, and the way he always made space for family, especially during holidays, when gathering together meant everything to him.
For many years, Charles worked as a hairdresser alongside Jean in her Thorold salon. They made a wonderful team, both in work and in life, and built many lasting friendships in the community. Their journey later took them to Port Sydney, where they owned and operated Pine Lodge Resort for more than 28 years. Charles loved life in the north, its community spirit, the beauty of nature, and the peacefulness that surrounded him there.
Charles valued being involved in his community and was always willing to lend a hand or share a story with those around him.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Meadows of Dorchester for the compassionate care, respect, and kindness shown to Charles throughout his time there.
In keeping with his wishes, cremation has taken place. A burial of ashes will be held at a later date, when family and friends will gather to honour and remember a gentle, hardworking, and dearly loved man. In memory of Charles, donations to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Canada would be appreciated by his family.
