Obituary of Cecil Robert Tanner

Peacefully and surrounded by the love and comfort of his family, Cecil Robert Tanner left this world to be reunited with his parents Walter and Violet Tanner (née Rayner), his son Jeffrey (2011) (Kristi), great-grandson Alexander (2023), daughter-in-law Melissa (2004) and sister Kathleen Pollon (2020) on Thursday, June 8, 2023 at the Greater Niagara General Hospital at the age of 91. Left here to carry on his legacy is his beloved wife of 68 years, Nancy (née Lock), his devoted children Mark, Sandra Flexhaug (Ken), Wendy Sentineal (Bob), Linda Haday (Murray), Annette Keilhau (Steve) and Amy Whitaker (Ron), his cherished grandchildren, Troy (Carrie), Sonya (Dean), Charlotte (Neil), Luke, Ingrid (Jeff), Emily (Johnny), Lydia (Chris), Kyle (Brittany), Cory, Curtis, Connor (Sila), Kaitlin (Rob), Kayla (Elisha), Mackenzi, Ellie (Tony), Rachael (Matthew), Ryan (Christina) and Reid (Carli), his adored great grandchildren Gryphon, Greta, Olivia, Ava, Lexi, Korbin, Henry, Oliver, Grace, Jack, Gabriel, Sebastian, Evangeline, Indie, Isla, Remi and Jude.

Cecil owned and operated his own company, Cec's Vehicle Repair Services for over 30 years. He was an innovator of his time. He enjoyed riding his bicycle all over Canada with his family and did so right up until he was no longer able to get his leg over the seat. He would downhill ski in the winter to stay strong to be able to bike in the summer. Cecil made so many friends bike riding throughout his time with us here. He was the most social and giving person you could ever meet. His children recall memories of camping in Sauble Beach and family gatherings where the grandchildren would model Cecil's sweaters. He always spoke kindly of everyone and was a great mediator. He enjoyed his nightly glass of wine, bird watching, floating down "The Crick", canoeing, kayaking, playing a few diddies on the harmonica and just being in the present moment watching the wind in the Canadian Flag. Cecil was a non-judgemental, honest to a fault, outdoorsy gent who will be terribly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

In keeping with his wishes, cremation has taken place. Arrangements have been entrusted to Essentials Cremation and Burial Services. If desired, donations in Cecil's memory may be made to the A.L.S Society of Canada and would be appreciated by his family.

It has been more than 50 years since I last saw Cecil, but his picture just jumped out at me. I was beginning a career as a Mechanic, and I respected him.He worked a lot on boats. The one day he gave me a one foot section oa inboard /outboard propeller shaft. He said use this every time that you install bearings. It is brass and it will not damage the bearing. I have been retired 20 years now , but I still have it in my tool box. There are some people that leave a mark or impression that you never forget. RIP Cecil

My sincere condolences to the family & close friends. Cec was such a kind spirited gentleman. I had the pleasure of working with Cec, at the the old Ontario Hydro. Located at Main Street & Murray back in the 80’s. And he really helped me pave my way, at a time when females weren’t so well received. Rest Easy Cec 🙏

Whenever we walked by with our son Grayson as he rode his bike… Cecil and Nancy were always on the porch waving… we will definitely miss his smile and wave.
From the day Dan and I moved into our house on Mackenzie Drove in 2006, we fondly remember Cecil riding his bike past our house every day….rest in peace🩷
