Obituary of Catharine June Barette

We are sad to announce the passing of Catharine June Barette on Friday, October 13th. Surrounded by her daughters, Cathy peacefully left Earth to reunite with her Husband Maurice who passed a year ago. Cathy is survived by her daughters, Christa and Jeanine (Terrence) and her granddaughters Tessa and Alice.

Cathy’s life adventures took her many places. At the age of 19, Cathy left her native St.Catharines, and moved to Toronto. After dipping her toes into different occupations, she eventually found her calling in the service industry. Some of Cathy’s best stories came from when she managed the Disco at the Royal York hotel. Most notable would be the story of when she sub-leased Jacques Plante’s apartment in the 1970’s. Cathy would accept a position at the Banff Springs hotel in the late 1970’s, and the rest would be history. There she met the love of her life and forever partner, Maurice. Soon after meeting, they were married and moved back to the Niagara Region. Together they opened a fine dining restaurant called Barette’s Bistro and welcomed two beautiful daughters.

In her later years, Cathy enjoyed crocheting and spent some time stocking her beautiful creations at various farmers markets and shops within the region. Cathy and Maurice enjoyed cooking and shared many beautiful meals together. Cathy explored all of her passions and wasn’t afraid to take risks as she followed her heart. She will be sadly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.

In keeping with Cathy’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Arrangements have been entrusted to Essentials Cremation and Burial Services. A celebration of Cathy’s life will be held on Saturday, October 21st from 1:00 p.m until 3:00 p.m at Essentials Niagara Falls 4300 Drummond Road, Niagara Falls, ON. If desired, donations can be made to the NHS-Niagara Falls Site.

My dearest sister
I saw you for the last time in the morning of the day before you died. Your hair hung loose on the pillow framing your lovely face. Your eyes, soft blue, were large and “all knowing”
.I said “you are beautiful!”
Your gentle radiance told me that you had angels with you, comforting you.
I never knew that they were there preparing to take you so very, very, far from your pain.

I fed you a dixie cup of caramel ripple ice cream. We agreed that it was something we hadn’t seen for many years. Amazing how things appear right at the most perfect time…
A Dixie Cup! We were children together again!

Your loving and devoted sister
Maggie

Many memories of Cathy as my “backseat driver” when we would go out with her and Maurice; fun times !
Cathy always mentioned the love she had for her sister Maggie ( Jim Leach ) and cousin, my wife Karen ( Mal Ross ) that she spent many hours of phone calls and visits with.
