Obituary of Byron Kenney Harding

Byron Kenney Harding, age 69, of Niagara Falls, Ontario, passed away peacefully with the love of his family at the Greater Niagara General Hospital on Thursday, June 29, 2023 after a courageous battle with cancer. Byron was born in Berwick, Nova Scotia on November 28, 1953 to the late Kenney and Annie (Lutz) Harding. Byron is survived by sisters, Debbie Cummins (Donald Cummins – predeceased), Ivy (Darren) Palmer; brothers, Leslie, Tim (Karen) and Laurie (Michele). He is also survived by daughter Roxanne Harding (Christopher Bonfini), son Byron Harding Jr. (Megan Walraven), and step-daughter Elizabeth Fernandez Ricardo (Paul Digiovanni). He will be dearly missed by his grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Byron was a devoted father, grandfather, and friend.

Byron had an unmatched work ethic, was always willing to lend a hand, and always saw the good in everyone. As a member of the working force and local unions, he always fought for what he believed was right. He loved working outdoors, including gardening and tree cutting. He was a member/supporter of many local organizations and was always giving to charity.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Essentials Cremation and Burial Services. Due to all the wonderful visits he had, Byron’s wishes were not to have a funeral service or visitation. Cremation has taken place and a celebration of life will be held on Wednesday, July 12, 2023 at Clancy's Restaurant and Bar, 5233 Stanley Ave, Niagara Falls, Ontario from 2 pm- 6 pm. Final resting place to be back home in Nova Scotia.

Special thanks to everyone that really made his wishes of being home throughout this time possible. Donations may be made in memory to the Salvation Army in lieu of flowers.

Byron has been a longtime supporting member of the Canadian-Cuban Friendship Association (CCFA) of Niagara. His heart was always with Cuba. He attended most of our annual summer BBQ’s to show support to Cuba’s attending diplomatic mission.

A loss of a truly trustworthy man is so sad. His presence alone made everyone feel stronger. His humour was contagious, his friendship well respected. Rest in peace my friend.

I worked with Byron in the union leadership inside GM St. Catharines for many years. He always tried his very best to make a difference for the skilled trades he represented. He was a great worker, a great Welder, a great man and a great friend. I feel bad that I never knew he was ill with cancer. Until we meet again my friend.
