In Loving Memory of

Beatrice “Anne” Stevenson (nee Hendry)

1936-2021

Obituary of Beatrice “Anne” Stevenson (nee Hendry)

On Friday, December 3, 2021, our world said goodbye to a wonderful, kind and loving lady. Anne peacefully passed away at Extendicare, which was her home for the past year. She will be dearly missed by her husband Wayne, who will forever love his Anne and is thankful for their 67 years of marriage. Her selfless dedication and love will be forever cherished by her children: John and Barbara Elliott Stevenson, David Stevenson, and Nancy Nesathurai. Proud Grammy of Alyssa, Anne, Donovan, Jack, Allan, and Claire. Loving sister of William Hendry. Anne was predeceased by her parents, Jean and George Hendry and by her granddaughter Megan Elliott (2013).

Anne was born in Toronto in 1936 and was adopted by Jean and George Hendry. She married the love of her life at the age of 18 and together with Wayne, they raised 3 children. Anne spent her married life at home caring for her kids and loved to spend summers with her family at the cottage.

Anne was an amazing cook and will be remembered for her shortbread cookies and Christmas pudding with rum sauce, which was a signature holiday dessert tradition for the family. She also found great enjoyment going to Niagara College taking painting courses and working on various arts and crafts. She was a gifted artist and has left pieces, most enriched with a beautiful flower or butterfly design, for her family to treasure. Her talents also made her an excellent seamstress and knitter. With love she prepared handmade Boston Red Sox sweaters for her grandchildren to wear and stay warm. She was also an artist when it came time for music. Anne loved musicals, playing the piano and singing in the choir at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, in Merritton. She will be dearly missed by members of the church congregation, many who became friends and volunteered their time with Anne making meat pies that were purchased and enjoyed far and wide.

A Special Thank you to Exendicare in St. Catharines for their kindness and support that was given to her. In this past year, Anne required more assistance with walking and personal care. She survived Covid, and our family is grateful for the home’s support, which allowed us to spend another 12 months with her.

In accordance with Anne’s wishes, cremation has taken place and arrangements are entrusted with Essentials Cremation and Burial Services (905-354-2133). A celebration of Anne’s life will be held in the Summer of 2022, details will be announced at a later date. As an expression of sympathy, memorial donations may be given to Women’s Place in Niagara. Online condolences may be shared on Anne’s tribute page found at EssentialsNiagara.com.
