Obituary of Albert William Borris

Albert William Borris
(April 1, 1936 – September 9, 2019)

Passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, at Greater Niagara General Hospital, at the age of 83. Loving husband for 18 years to Margaret. A loving father to Debbie Perret (Verne), Arlene Larkin (Bill), Cathy Verkerk (Jim), Rick Borris, and stepfather to Derek Watson (Elizabeth). Grampa to Lisa and Nolan Perret, Dan and Tammy Larkin, and will also be missed by many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents, Albert and Florence Borris; his first wife Irene Borris (Hux), mother of their children; brother Ron; and his many faithful canine companions.

Al took pride in his service with the Royal Canadian Air Force. He had his pilot’s licence and was passionate about planes. Al was a great salesman and entrepreneur. He also spent many years driving taxi and highway coach, which allowed him to connect and meet many wonderful people. Al will be remembered as an avid sportsman. Often, you would find him fishing in the Lake Eugenia area, waterskiing, or playing hockey or baseball. As we reflect on Al’s life, our hearts are filled with loving memories and wonderful stories such as his heroic rescue in 1953 and by his love for dogs. In the words of one of Al’s favourite entertainers, Flip Wilson, “The Devil made me do it!” … words he lived by 🙂 We are left with many fond memories of his strength, determination and love for his family.

In accordance with Al’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Essentials Cremation and Burial Services (905-354-2133). A private celebration of life for the family will take place at a later date. Al will be laid to rest, fittingly, in a plot numbered #747, at Fairview Cemetery. Memorial donations can be made to the Salvation Army, Canadian Cancer Society or the Humane Society. Online condolences may be shared on Al’s tribute page found at EssentialsNiagara.com.

I was saddened to hear of Al’s passing although I have not seen him for over 25 years. Al was a wonderful grandpa to our sons Michael and Matthew from 1984 to 1992. I don’t think Matthew would remember him since he was only two when our mom and Al parted but certainly Michael remembers him fondly. Al took Michael fishing at Lake Eugenia which was Michael’s one and only fishing experience. I know he missed having a granpa after Al.
My condolences to you all!
