Obituary of Alan Lewis Ames

Ames, Alan Lewis

Passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on Friday, November 13, 2020 at St. Catharines Hospital, at the age of 57. Loving dad to Rebecca (Mike) and Curtis (Kaleigh). Cherished granddad to Michael Iwanyszyn and his beloved family friends, Susie Ames and Bob Lambert. Brother to Cathy MacMillan (Alan) and lovingly remembered by many cousins, nieces and nephews. He will be missed by his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, and his little chihuahua buddy, Otis. Alan is predeceased by his sister, Linda Ames and his parents David and Evelyn Ames.

Alan will be remembered for many things, but his sarcasm and tendency to not take things seriously will certainly be one of them. He loved to tease his loved ones, especially his daughter Rebecca. He enjoyed taking his children on “vacation”, bringing them to attractions such as the local electrical plant or the Ontario Science Centre. Some of his many hobbies included watching Doctor Who, Star Trek, or cheering on the Toronto Maple Leaf. He had a huge passion for astrology, studying the stars and planets. Playing cribbage, reading hours on hours of news on the computer and eating food over the sink were also activities he frequented. When he wasn’t enjoying his many pastimes, family was always his #1. Alan prided himself on being able to teach his son, Curtis, his line of work by training him as a Fire Alarm Technician, or spending time sharing a bowl of Country Fresh Doughnut’s wonton soup with his daughter.

The family would like to thank the ICU staff and Dr. Erick Duan at the St. Catharines Hospital for their compassion shown to Alan during his time there. Essentials Cremation and Burial Services (905-354-2133) has been entrusted with arrangements. As per Alan’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a celebration of his life will be held at a later date. Donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Salvation Army would be appreciated by his family. Online condolences may be shared to Alan’s tribute page at EssentialsNiagara.com.

Alan, you will be sadly missed and forever in our hearts.

Curtis,

I enjoyed my years working with your dad at CrownFire. He was funny and had such a kind heart. I was deeply saddened to hear about his passing. I hope time heals your pain.
