Obituary of Aileen Diane Miller (nee Van Der Heide)

After a 4 year fight against cancer, with which she faced with grace and dignity, we announce that Aileen Diane Miller (née Van Der Heide) at the age of 55 passed away peacefully surrounded by the love and comfort of her family. She is predeceased by her loving mother, Bertha Van Der Heide (2020). Left to carry on her legacy are her devoted children; Melissa Glintz (Steven), Timothy Miller (Stephanie) and Michael Miller. Aileen was a very proud Gramma to Luka, Willa, Ellie and Kiah, a dear sister to Doreen Van De Ban (Harvey), Maxine Zekveld (John), Greg Van Der Heide (Wendy), Jacqueline Feyen (Brad), Elizabeth Boersma (Raymond) and Patricia Van Der Heide. She will be fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews, cousins and by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Aileen found solace and joy in the simple pleasures of life. Her flower beds were not just a hobby but a labor of love, meticulously tended to with care and dedication. She loved leisurely floating in a pool, on a pool noodle, with a cold beverage in hand, soaking up the warmth of the sun. Aileen enjoyed watching the birds feast from the feeders and she always ensured there were ample seeds to sustain them. Her passion for wines was also reflected in her love for Niagara Wineries, where she savored the sights, scents, and flavors of the region's vineyards. And who could forget her fondness for 'toodling,' those spontaneous back road drives, filled with laughter and adventure. In these cherished pastimes, she found not only pleasure but a deep connection to the world around her. Her spirit will continue to thrive in the beauty she cultivated and the memories she leaves behind.

Being the oldest of seven, Aileen was a caregiver at heart. It didn't matter how she was needed, she was always there without hesitation or questioning the reason. Christmas was her favourite time of year. You could often find her listening to the Transsiberian Orchestra in July and as soon as the calendar page turned to October, it was nothing but Christmas carols. It is the giving season and it was important to her that everyone have exactly what they wished for. Aileen worked as a manager for Walmart for many years and built a work family with many of her co-workers. Even after being out on sick leave for almost four years, her colleagues said she was still very much a part of the team. She would call and check in on those who meant the most to her. She was highly respected and loved.

The family wishes to extend their sincere thanks to Aileen’s family doctor, Dr. Bottega as well as her oncologist, Dr. Yellamanchili and all the wonderful staff at the Walker Family Cancer Centre for their care and compassion.

In accordance with her wishes, a time has been set aside to offer comfort and share memories on Monday, June 17, 2024 from 2:00 p.m until 4:00 p.m and from 6:00 p.m until 8:00 p.m at Wainfleet Be In Christ Church 53007 Perry Rd, Wainfleet, ON. A funeral service at Wainfleet Be In Christ Church will be held in Aileen's honor on Tuesday, June 18, 2024 at 11:00 a.m with burial to follow at Maple Lawn Cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted to Essentials Cremation and Burial Services in Welland. If desired, donations in Aileen's memory may be made to The Walker Family Cancer Centre and would be appreciated by the family.
